Our objective is to provide treatment in a caring and supportive way thinking about families needs first. We hope to grow and be a leader in the treatment and assessment of individuals with ASD and developmental delays.

Families come first here at LCA. Our business philosophy is to provide the highest quality of research based therapy & education to children with Autism. We offer specialized, individual & group therapies by taking a trans-disciplinary approach and creating the best possible treatment and therapy program for your child. We will always be there to provide continued support, promote awareness & educate our families and the community.

How Our Process Works at LCA:

Evaluation Process: We provide a thorough assessment of an individual that may include speech and language, behavior, cognition, sensory integration, gross and fine motor, visual-perceptual abilities, reading and social skills. The evaluation may be all at one time with more than one provider, or it may be at separate times. Reasons for separate evaluations may include schedule availability, time constraints, or amount of testing to be conducted.

Please keep in mind:

1. Evaluations may be anywhere from one to three hours.

2. There may be multiple providers evaluating your child.

3. Evaluations may occur on separate days.

4. We use standardized measures and informed clinical opinion.

5. We also incorporate family goals into your child’s therapy.

Some common standardized measures include:

1. Preschool Language Scale-4

2. The Comprehensive Assessment of Spoken Language

3. Peabody Developmental Motor Scales

4. Gray Oral Reading Test-4

5. Clinical Evaluation of Language Fundamentals-4

6. Goldman Fristoe test of Articulation

7. Khan Lewis Phonological Analysis

8. Mullen Scales of Early Learning

The evaluation process is long and extensive. Depending upon the type and amount of evaluation conducted, your evaluation report may take up to one month to receive. Your provider will make recommendations as to the amount and type of therapy your child will benefit from. These recommendations may include: Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Autism Therapy, Behavioral Intervention/Consultation, Speech Evaluation, Occupational Therapy Evaluation, Physical Therapy Evaluation, Behavioral Evaluation, Social Skills Training, and/or Preschool.

The recommendations for therapy may range from one day per week for half an hour to intensive 5 day per week for an hour each individual discipline. This means your child may have intervention for three to five hours in a day, each day. We will attempt to provide this intervention within blocks of time. This will allow for transitions between therapist to occur smoothly and with as little interruption as possible.

Therapy: Our therapy sessions run from 30 minutes to 60 minutes depending on the recommendations made in the assessment. For a 30 minute therapy session, there will be 25 minutes of patient contact and 5 minutes to transition the child, write notes and prep for the next session. For a 60 minute session, there is 50 minutes of patient contact and 10 minutes to transition, document the session and to prep for the next session.  It is crucial for parents to be on time for their pick-up because it affects that clinician and the next patient that is waiting for the clinician.

30 minute session: 25 minutes with the child

60 minute session: 50 minutes with the child

Progress: Based on the evaluation, family input and your therapists input, goals will be determined. These goals will be documented via a variety of data collection forms.

At each three month interval, a progress report will be completed by each individual provider. During this session, your therapist will ask to stop the session 20 minutes early to complete the progress note.

At each 3-month interval, your clinician may ask to complete a standardized or criterion referenced measure. This may take up to three sessions to complete.

Once your child exits services for any reason, your clinician will complete an exit report for that individual. This report will summarize goals and progress during your time here at LCA.

Communication: Our center provides multiple opportunities to communicate amongst staff, including all staff meetings and individual department meetings. This ensures collaboration amongst therapists that may be serving that same individual patient.

Multiple Therapists: Based on the assessment and collaboration amongst staff, your family may receive services from a variety of different providers. There are a number of reasons that we have chosen to provide services in this manner, some of which include allowing for generalization of skills across interaction partners, sharing the unique skill sets that each provider possesses, providing intensive opportunities for addressing the same goals and multiple viewpoints regarding a child’s functional performance.

Rescheduling: If a therapist is out of the office on a day you are scheduled for therapy, there may be an opportunity to receive services from another treating provider. We will provide this opportunity if a therapist who knows your child is available.  It is important that we maximize learning opportunities and do not have fill-ins that will not support the ongoing growth of a child’s skills. There may be cancellations if an appropriate provider is not available.  If this happens, we will work hard to reschedule for other times if they become available.

Waitlist: It is not uncommon that we will have a waitlist here at LCA. We are aware that children with a diagnosis of ASD need intensive support and we will work hard to ensure that we can provide support to as many children as possible. We also want to ensure the quality of our services, so we ask for patience from our families as we attempt to fit services in for our prospective clients.
