This is a sample Lakeside Academy Schedule:
9:00-9:10 Books on the Rug: This is a quiet time for children to transition from their families to the structured group environment. Children read and play quietly on the rug until their classmates arrive to start the morning circle.
9:10-9:20 Morning Circle: During morning circle we explore our weekly theme and academic skills through songs, fine and gross motor movements, books and other materials. During this time children are learning skills that are needed to participate in structured large group activities such as remaining with the group, following directions and sensory regulation.
9:20-10:30 Free Play & Centers: During free play, children explore new textures and materials, learn to share and sustain attention, engage and interact with peers, play functionally, participate imaginative play, problem solve, and develop independence. Centers allow children to further explore our theme and academic skills in small groups. Instruction during centers is differentiated to meet the individual needs of each child. During this time children practice skills such as participating in structured lessons, sharing materials, and following directions.
10:30-11:00 Snack: During snack we offer children a variety of food items in a social setting. This time allows us to work on skills such as appropriate requesting, expanding food repertoire, developing appropriate eating skills, and tolerating different textures. Snacks will be provided. If your child has allergies or a special diet, accommodations will be made.
11:00-11:30 Gross Motor Play in the Motor Room or Outside: During gross motor play we offer a variety of activities to help your child develop their body awareness and mastery over movement. Activities will include a variety of swings, trampolines, climbing, bikes and more. In addition we will offer sensory play such as water play outside when appropriate. During this time we also target sensory regulation and social skills.
11:30-11:35 Yoga: Yoga serves as a transition between gross motor play and circle. During this time children work on sensory regulation, body awareness, and motor planning.
11:35-11:45 Good-Bye Circle: Goodbye circle is a time for staff to follow the childrens’ lead through songs, finger plays and books. Transition time to end the day and say goodbye before the children return to their family.
11:45-12:00 Free Play & Pick-up/Debrief: Free play is a time for children to transition from the structured activities back to their families. Children have the opportunity to interact with materials used throughout the day’s lesson and to engage and interact with peers. This short free play time allows parents and teachers to debrief about the day.
